Hi Folks, Xander here, sat tweaking the website behind the scenes, tidying up words here, changing pictures there, does that link work? no? why? losing what little hair I have on my head! Then I remembered that recently I asked some of our young people and parents to complete a questionnaire about the support they had received and the impact I/the charity had made to their lives… here are some examples.
Please describe how the support from the Senior CHD Health Youth Worker was helpful?
“The support from the Senior CHD Health Youth Worker was extremely helpful because it eased my nerves of moving to the adult side and made me feel a lot more comfortable and safe! So incredibly helpful!”
“Xander helped ease our worries about transitioning to the adult side for both C and myself as his Mum. We are less scared about the move now and feel more informed about what it will be like.”
“Xander from the onset had a challenge with our daughter as she has Autism and does not open up easily. F was very closed off and Xander broke down her walls and built a strong relationship with F over the months she was an inpatient. Even after transfer and discharge F and our family know he’s there at the end of the phone and will always help in any way he can. He has helped us all in so many ways, practically emotionally and always with a friendly kind approach. He is a credit to the charity and service.”
“They reassured me when I needed it and spoke to me like a real person rather than just a patient. They recognised I am more than just my heart condition and spoke to me about my enjoyments and our similarities.”
Please use the space below for any other comments/feedback.
“I/we honestly cannot thank Xander our support worker enough. We really hope the service continues to flourish which I’m sure it will with him at the helm. He is a credit to himself and the service.”
“For us Xander was the bridge we needed. Really helped with just knowing someone understood both mine and my daughter’s anxiety. Which are two very different concerns.”
“I/we honestly cannot thank Xander our support worker enough. We really hope the service continues to flourish which I’m sure it will with him at the helm. He is a credit to himself and the service.”
Now I will admit that taking praise is somewhat uncomfortable for me, but it is always worth taking a moment to really read, hear, and understand the impact that can be made in a role like this. In my 4 years in this role I have learned so much about CHD, how individual the journeys are and how much of a privilege it is to build the relationships I have and being able to walk alongside the young people and families I have so far.
Thank you all for teaching me so much, every day is a learning day in the world of CHD!
